In Your Dreams
TheSPACE/Human Givens Consultancy
Gulf's Road
Kendal
Cumbria LA9 4DT
Most of us have, from time to time, experienced sleepless nights, have woken fatigued and/or able to recall a series of bizarre dreams. Impaired sleep characterises and maintains widespread emotional health issues such as anxiety and depression.
TheSPACE/Human Givens Consultancy is hosting an information evening to provide a stimulating insight into sleep and dreaming. The event will explore the sleep cycle and how the increasing demands of modern life impact upon our sleep and moreover, the implications of poor quality sleep on our emotional and physical health. Recent advances in scientific research which have advanced our understanding of the dreaming process will be discussed and importantly, how this knowledge can be used to help lift depression and make sense of psychosis.
Our emotional well-being is reliant upon our basic emotional needs - the human givens - being met, and our ability to meet those needs is aided by quality sleep, so a range of practical interventions to improve sleep and stimulate the body's relaxation response will be presented.
In Your Dreams is one of a series of events being held to provide information about the human givens, a practical, empowering approach to achieving emotional well-being.
So why not take the opportunity to:
* Enhance understanding of the functions of sleep and dreaming
* To increase awareness of the relationship between sleep, dreaming and emotional health
* To understand the metaphorical nature of dreaming
* To understand how utilising our innate resources can enable us to manage stress more effectively and improve sleep
* Learn practical techniques that promote healthy, refreshing sleep and emotional well-being

Demystifying Addiction -The 'Carrot & Stick'!
Caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, food, exercise, drugs, gambling, sex, shopping: rates of addiction are soaring, and as a result the emotional and physical health of many individuals and the people around them are adversely affected. Many more of us experience cravings that can leave us feeling out of control.
TheSPACE/Human Givens Consultancy is hosting an information evening to explore scientific research which helps us to understand the role of the brain in the addictive process. The event will discuss our innate motivational system and how it can be 'hijacked', resulting in dependency and craving. The role of the addictive process in the development and maintenance of eating disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder will also be introduced, and importantly, how our natural resources can be used to help overcome addictive behaviours, and restore emotional health.
Demystifying Addiction - The 'Carrot & Stick'! is one of a series of events being held to provide information about the human givens, a practical, empowering approach to achieving emotional well-being.

Emotional Hijack!
TheSPACE/Human Givens Consultancy
Gulf's Road
Kendal
Cumbria LA9 4DT
A new, purpose-designed therapeutic and education facility has opened to help individuals, couples and families. The facility is for anyone who might need help in dealing with stressful situations, anxiety and depression, in resolving trauma, stopping addictive behaviour and relieving the symptoms of medical conditions such as chronic pain and irritable bowel syndrome etc.
Training on ways to enhance emotional health & well-being is also delivered to groups and individuals in a fun, informative and down-to-earth way. Opportunities to positively influence the way we feel are explored, together with ways in which we can better help those who may be struggling - friends, family, colleagues and children.
Emotional Hijack! is one of a series of events being held to provide information about the human givens, a practical, empowering approach to achieving emotional well-being
and will be held on:
Date to be announced
7.30pm-9.30pm
Cost: £10.00 (including tea and coffee)
So why not take the opportunity to:
* Understand the reasons why we can experience uncomfortable ups and downs in our lives, and how that impacts upon our health and well-being in the form of anxiety and depression
* Understand why certain people have a strong effect on us without us always knowing why.
* Understand why, when looking back, we are sometimes aware of occasions when seemingly trivial occurrences have sometimes provoked a massive response? (The terms 'mountain' and 'molehill' may spring to mind!)
These are all indications of what can be called Emotional Hijack!, where our emotions over-ride our better judgement. What's more, fresh research into brain function shows that, to some extent, this is happening all the time. Once we understand how our brains really work, we need never be caught unawares again - and we can better understand the behaviour of those with whom we live and work. We can be clearer about why people sometimes behave the way they do, and - more importantly - how to regain control of the way we feel.
There will be ample time for questions and to look around this exciting new facility.
