Who is Fellside For?

Many, if not all, of the young people who come to us will have already experienced several placement breakdowns and who may have additional needs in relation to abuse, family breakdown, sleep/eating disorders, panic attacks, "flashbacks", aggressive behaviour, the autistic spectrum or learning difficulties.

All young people here want to change, and our commitment is to helping them build on existing resources, to develop new and different lives, through healing the past, being secure and safe in the present and moving with them towards a new vision for their future.

Within themselves, young people can be overwhelmed by feelings of worthlessness, low self-esteem and the inevitability of failure. They can often find it difficult to enjoy themselves, play creatively, learn, make friends, share productively in any group activity or, indeed, lack the motivation to seek out almost any positive experiences.

When too many of our physical and emotional needs are not met or when our resources are used incorrectly - unwittingly or otherwise - we suffer considerable distress. And so do those around us.

Most of the young people who come to us will have assumed that it is their fault that their world is such an unhappy place.

It is for such children as these that Fellside exists.
